A Carl Junction man that pleaded guilty to choking and punching another man in the head and face last year has been given a suspended sentence and two years of unsupervised probation. 37-year-old Mark Birch was charged with second-degree assault, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor assault earlier this week. According to court documents, the victim, 23-year-old Derek Boatright, had to have facial reconstructive surgery to repair a broken eye socket from the attack.
