Judge Rules Against Medication Abortions at Two Missouri Clinics

A federal judge has denied a Planned Parenthood request for a preliminary injunction against new Missouri regulations on abortion that have so far prevented the organization from offering medication-induced abortions at it’s Springfield and Columbia clinics. U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips wrote in a ruling Monday that the regulations “have virtually no benefit” but do not impose enough of a burden on women to be considered unconstitutional.

The regulations require providers of medication abortions to find doctors with admitting privileges at a local hospital who will be available at all times to treat complications from medication abortions. Currently, medication abortions are provided in Missouri only in Kansas City or St. Louis.
