Water rates are going up across the state of Missouri. The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved new water and sewer rates for Missouri American Water customers that will take effect on May 28th. The last time water rates were increased was in 2012. Customers in Joplin using at least 4,000 gallons of water per month will see an increase of $3.69 per month for a total monthly bill of $33.99 plus taxes and fees for an increase of 12.2 percent. Officials say the rate request was in response to the $207 million of infrastructure investments made by Missouri American Water throughout the state that were not previously reflected in rates, including over $18 million in Joplin.
