Even though it wasn’t on the official agenda, Joplin City Council members discussed the re-striping of Main Street at Monday night’s meeting. They have decided to keep the four-lanes that have been in place before they had looked at trying alternative patterns last year.
City Manager Sam Anselm says he received feedback from city staff, businesses and residents to keep the lanes as is. However, he says there is a proposed plan to make them a half foot more narrow. This would allow for a “parklet” to be installed in parking lanes for a trial period.
Since the issue was not on the official agenda, members asked to suspend conversation for a later work session meeting.
