Two Arrested After Chase From Joplin To Carthage

A man and woman from Kansas City who were visiting Joplin are spending time in the Jasper County Jail.  According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Justin Williams and 27-year-old Melody Vaughn were at a home on Fountain Road Wednesday night (10/4), when Williams and Vaughn allegedly stole the resident’s car. Jasper County Sergeant Tim Williams tells News Talk KZRG the two led authorities on a chase into Carthage, where the Missouri State Highway Patrol had spike strips waiting for them.
“The vehicle came to a stop, the individuals jumped out.  There was a short foot pursuit where (deputies) were able to take them into custody without any kind of an incident.”
Williams and Vaughn were arrested for tampering and resisting arrest.  Vaughn also allegedly tried to smuggle a white powdery substance into the jail, so she was also arrested for possessing a controlled substance and delivering a controlled substance into a jail.
