Joplin will be part of two cycling events next June. The Oklahoma Freewheel will end in Joplin; then the Big BAM Ride, for Bicycle Across Missouri, will begin. Both rides will travel along the historic Route 66. News Talk KZRG asked Big BAM executive director Greg Wood if Route 66 was a factor in moving the ride to Joplin.
“We think we’ve already seen more interest because of that…and we’re going to use that in the promotion quite heavily.”
Oklahoma Freewheel executive director Trevor Steward tells News Talk KZRG he’s excited to have his event come to Joplin. “This will be our 40th year, we started in 1979. So this will be our 40th tour and we’re really excited to do Route 66.”
Specific cities for the Oklahoma Freewheel haven’t been determined yet, but it’s expected to go through Route 66 in Kansas before getting to Joplin.
