A Joplin man is behind bars, and soon to be charged with child abuse following a call to police about an unresponsive baby on Saturday. Joplin Police say they were called to an apartment in the 3400 block of Newman Road along with Joplin Fire and METS for a 2-month-old baby having a seizure and not breathing. When officers arrived, the 8 week old baby boy was unresponsive. The baby had visible injuries to his face and body. The boy was quickly airlifted to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City for treatment where he is currently listed in critical condition. 31-year-old Earl Clark was arrested for child abuse. He is currently in the Joplin City Jail and charges are being submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office.
UPDATE 9:20pm 9/12: Earl Clark has been charged with child abuse and is being held on $100,000 cash bond.
