One of the visitors to Joplin for the fifth anniversary of the May 2011 tornado is Weather Channel meteorologist Mike Bettes. He has covered the Joplin tornado from the beginning…and tells News Talk KZRG a positive came from the deadly storm.
“One of those moments where you become much more aware of your circumstances..in this instance, weather. And so now, so many people in southwest Missouri take weather so much more seriously than they used to and they don’t take anything for granted any more.”
Bettes says he’s also impressed with the way Joplin has rebuilt from the tornado. “It’s awesome to see the progress every step of the way. It’s a total transformation in my eyes.”
Bettes spoke Friday (5/20) in Joplin at a banquet honoring EMS workers.[banner location=”afterpostbanner”] [banner location=”responsivelinks”] [banner location=”responsivematched”]
