Former Senator special guest at groundbreaking for Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center

Senator Roy Blunt will be the special guest during a public groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, for the new Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center at Missouri Southern State University. Due to weather the ceremony will now be held in the Taylor Performing Arts Center.

Located in the heart of campus, the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center will be a nearly 65,000 square-foot building featuring a new simulation hospital, cadaver labs, campus welcome center, along with other classroom and office spaces.

Among those scheduled to speak during the ceremony are Dr. Dean Van Galen, president of Missouri Southern; Dr. Brad Hodson, executive vice president of Missouri Southern; Ashley Cordischi, senior nursing student at Missouri Southern; Dr. Sherry Whiteman, chair of the allied health department at Missouri Southern; Carlos Haley, vice-chair of the Missouri Southern Board of Governors.

“We are grateful to the State of Missouri and the many other partners who are investing in the Roy Blunt Health Science Innovation Center,” said Dr. Van Galen. “This unique facility will provide wonderful opportunities for students and enable Missouri Southern to address critical workforce needs within the Four States.”

At 2 p.m. following the ceremony, Sen. Blunt will kick off the inaugural Willcoxon Innovation in Health Sciences Summit.
