Car crashes and burns on Route 66; driver seriously injured

A one-vehicle accident resulted in serious injuries to a driver early Saturday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened around 1:35 a.m. on MO Route 66 about 2 miles east of Duenweg.

Troopers says an eastbound 2007 Toyota Tundra driven by 42-year-old Gregory A. Waterman of Galena Kansas ran off the right side of the road, first striking a culvert.

The vehicle then vaulted, overturned, came to rest, caught fire and burned.

Waterman was seriously injured. He was transported to a Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
