Joplin Police investigate drowning in Shoal Creek

A man is dead after a drowning in Shoal Creek in south Joplin. Read the full press release from Joplin Police below:

On July 27th, 2023, at 2:20 p.m., the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call for a report of a vehicle that went into the water in Shoal Creek near Glendale Road and south Jackson Avenue.

Officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene to begin rescue and investigative efforts. It was determined shortly thereafter the vehicle was found to be occupied by an adult male who was determined to be deceased.

Detectives with the Joplin Police Department as well as members of the Major Crash Team are currently on scene and actively working the investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.
