One person dead after Chanute house explosion

One person is reported to be dead following the explosion of a house in Chanute, Kansas.

Chanute Firefighters responded to a structure fire call on South Evergreen in that city around 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

It was later determined that not a fire but an explosion had caused significant damage to the house.

After shoring up the house to allow for an inspection, a body was found inside.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal and the ATF (the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) are investigating the cause of the explosion.

The house has been deemed unsafe to the public and is being torn down.
